GoPro products have quite possibly become one of the most popular and sought after consumer cameras. In a nutshell, here’s why: It’s small and it produces great quality footage. It doesn’t matter whether you’re a daredevil athlete who is capturing your zip lining and rock climbing adventures, or a beginner filmmaker, the GoPro is for everyone. The GoPro even had a starring role in Ben Stiller’s latest movie, “While We’re Young.” In the film, Adam Driver’s character uses the GoPro to shoot his ‘hopeful’ award-winning documentary.
LATF has become an avid GoPro user and we recently had the chance to shoot with the latest HERO4. There is a HERO4 Black version with similar features, but we tried the sleek Silver. So what’s new with the next level of GoPro cameras?
It’s all about the built-in LCD screen on the HERO4 Silver. You can easily see your shot and frame, rather than guessing what you’re capturing. You can control the camera, frame shots and play back content by simply tapping and swiping the screen.
It captures:
1080p60 and 720p120 video with lifelike clarity
12MP photos at a staggering 30 frames per second.
HiLight Tag allows you to mark key moments for easy playback, editing and sharing
QuikCapture allows you to power on the camera and start recording with the press of a single button.
For the swimmers and divers… the HERO4 is waterproof to 131’ (40m).
If you’re shooting at night, the new Night Photo and Night Lapse modes offer customizable exposure settings of up to 30 seconds for single and Time Lapse photos.
Features built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth
When it comes to keeping track of your footage and editing, the GoPro mobile app is great. You can see a live view wirelessly on your phone or tablet. For editing programs, GoPro offers GoPro Studio, which is a special editing system specifically for the HERO files. If you’re using iMovie or any Apple based software, do make sure to convert your videos into the GoPro/CineForm file format to make them compatible.
While it does take some time to completely understand how to navigate the HERO4 touch screen options, casing, etc., once you master it, you never want to leave home without your HERO. For LATF’s HERO4 experience, stay tuned for footage in the ELECTRONICS section of our daily news site www.LATFusa.com.

Samsung Galaxy Note 4
After committing to all Apple products, from the Macbook to the iPhone, the Samsung Galaxy Note4 is the only mobile device that has convinced me to cross-over to the Android world. It’s sleek, stylish and large, but not too big that it doesn’t fit in my hand. While all phones take some getting used to, the Galaxy is fairly simply to learn how to navigate.
When it comes to the look, it has a 2.5D glass screen and soft-textured back cover that makes it easy to control with one hand. Unlike the iPhone, the design allows the user to have a good grip and enhanced durability. Even without a case, you’re not afraid the phone will slip out of your hand at any moment.
The screen is stunning with precise color saturation and the high contrast of 5.7'' Quad HD Super AMOLED display. What does that really mean? The colors are vibrant, and the app boxes really pop. The quality makes it easy for web-browsing and e-reading.
The main screen conveniently displays the weather in your area and you can rearrange your most-used Apps to appear at first swipe. One of my favorite elements of the Samsung Galaxy versus the iPhone is the Google Voice compared to Siri. Sorry Siri, but you just don’t understand me. One tap, one question and Google Voice comprehends most everything you say, whether it’s directions or a simple Google search. Perfect if you’re hands-free and in a hurry to get somewhere. There is also S Voice, Samsung’s version of Siri, which is equally as good as Google Voice.
Samsung has improved their charging speed with the Galaxy Note 4, going from zero to 50% in about 30 minutes. Space wise, the phone has 3GB RAM + 32GB Internal memory and can support microSD’s up to 128GB.
Since most everyone relies on their phone to take photographs, look no further for bright and clear images with great pixel quality. The Galaxy Note 4 takes photos that might as well be professional. The colors stand-out in high resolution. As most phones do these days, it comes with a Front Camera 3.7MP + F1.9/ Selfie (90º), Wide selfie mode (120º) and Rear Camera 16M+ Smart OIS/ Fast AF, Live HDR(Rich Tone).
Other great qualities and apps include:
S Pen: Make your own notes. Take photos with Photo Note and instantly convert analog to digital. You can edit notes, change colors, and put in additional memos with S Pen easily.
S Health: is your personal fitness coach. Set targets, track your everyday activities.
Evernote: Organize and follow the images, documents, emails that are extra important.
