Hair Loss
What We Can Do
by Michele Elyzabeth
It is a known fact that we lose up to 100 hairs per day. As we age, hair becomes more brittle and fragile. We grow less of it. Rare are the individuals who are not affected over the years. For women, the thinning happens over time. It occurs usually at the crown, while in some cases men may inherit hair loss resulting in bald spots either at the crown or around the forehead. This can be devastating to anyone since hair has a lot to do with appearance. It can even result in depression.
There are many reasons why people suffer hair loss, besides male-pattern or female-pattern baldness. Stress, illness such as cancer when treated through chemotherapy, a lack of protein or iron, a hypothyroidism, a hormonal deficiency due to pregnancy, the use of chemical products such as hair color or straightening can provoke hair loss. Also, heat weakens hair proteins; a simple curling iron will contribute to breakage. If you feel that the problem persists, you should consult your primary physician who may or may not refer you to a dermatologist specializing in scalp and skin disorders or an endocrinologist. Whatever the situation is, there is no cause for alarm. There are many treatments available for people and often hair loss can be reversible. In certain instances like baldness, it is more than likely that you will have to consult with a plastic surgeon or a doctor who specializes in hair replacement procedures, but that again is a solution available to you.
It’s important to understand what hair loss is, how hair grows, and what you can do before hair loss becomes an issue. A few simple preventive steps can be taken early on.
Reduce the use of hair dryers, hot curlers, hot brushes, hair fasteners, and chemical treatments and your hair will last longer. Be very careful with heated tools not to burn your scalp which can permanently damage hair follicles. Natural drying is best whenever possible. Try to avoid pulling hair when styling. Invest in good brushes. Avoid elastics and clips. Hair extensions can be a hair killer!
Wash with a good shampoo. Clean hair and scalp does prevent hair loss. When brushing wet hair after shampooing, use a very wide-toothed comb. Avoid brushing hair too often. Be gentle when drying your hair, patting dry is the best way. Finally, when using a brush use a soft bristled brush (natural boar hair is the best).

New Body Laser Center offers a preventive hair treatment for people with concerns. This particular hair treatment stimulates the growth of new hair by opening new pores and hair follicles.

1st Step: Consultation
After a short conversation with the technician, the scalp is examined through the use of a machine to determine what type of hair you have: oily, dry, etc. and how damaged it is. Usually a minimum of four sessions is recommended before reevaluating the progress of the treatment that can be witnessed immediately through the photos provided by the machine.
2nd Step: Massaging
Hair treatment with aroma therapy for relaxation. The massage is essential so the blood can circulate and the hair pores can open making way for new growth.
3rd Step: Deep Cleansing
A deep Cleansing of the scalp will continue to open the pores allowing the follicles to produce healthy hair. Using three types of organic South Korean products: Oil PH Balancing, Dry Scalping and Sensitive Scaling, the technician creates a hair mask with Aloe Vera powder, lavender oil and water. The formula is customized for each client depending on the type of hair. For instance; Green tea is for sensitive scalps.
4th Step: Steaming & Shampooing
After steaming the hair with tea water which is used for its nutrients, the hair should be shampooed and conditioned.
5th Step: Sensitive PH Balancing
The final phase occurs with a Galvanic Ion Massage and follows with a blue and red LED light which treats the scalp. It stimulates hair growth and accelerates blood circulation. Next will be the styling, but there again, natural drying is recommended. The total duration of the treatment lasts about one hour and twenty minutes.

The price can vary from $150-$300 depending on the condition of the hair. The consultation is free. Though it is anything but inexpensive, it is a small price to pay to save your hair.
