Elton John Aids Foundation's Star-Studded Oscar Viewing Party

by Toby Roberts

Every year the Elton John Aids Foundation hosts an Academy Award viewing party for the stars and many supporters of the cause. Other than Vanity Fair's party, this is arguably the most high profile, well attended and successful event in Hollywood on Oscar night. Over the past 22 years, the annual viewing party has raised nearly $40 million. These funds help the Foundation to support a wide range of initiatives, including direct treatment, care, and support services for people living with HIV/AIDS.

On Sunday March 2nd, 2014 Elton John and film director/producer David Furnish will once again host the glamorous gala at West Hollywood Park in Los Angeles. The party is sponsored by the Foundation's corporate supporters, including Chopard, Neuro Drinks and Wells Fargo. They have an entire evening planned with an auction, dinner, and of course, the live telecast of the 86th Academy Awards.

Chef Gordon Ramsay will once again prepare the sumptuous five-course dinner. An exciting live auction will follow and a special musical guest will take the stage to perform. 2013's fundraiser brought Emeli Sande as the surprise performer. DJ Johnny Dynell will spin tunes for dancing the night away. As far as exciting auction items, last year's event included exotic trips such as five days at Steven Tyler's Hawaiian retreat, and private Elton John performances.

Guests don't just attend for dinner and the show, they come together to raise money for the Elton John Aids Foundation, also known as EJAF. Sir Elton John created EJAF over 20 years ago, first in the United States in 1992, and then in the United Kingdom in 1993.  The two foundations together have raised more than $300 million over the past two decades to combat stigma, prevent infections, provide treatment and services, and motivate governments to end AIDS.

The U.S. foundation focuses its efforts on programs in the United States, the Americas, and the Caribbean, while the U.K. foundation funds HIV-related work in Europe, Asia, and Africa.

Audi and MAC Viva Glam have partnered with EJAF as the evening's generous Co-Sponsors. American Airlines jumped on board as the official sponsoring airline.

You will certainly recognize some of this year's event co-chairs from Jim Carrey to Chris Colfer, John Demsey, Judi Dench, Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka, Diana Jenkins, Quincy Jones, Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban, Billie Jean King and Ilana Kloss, Heidi Klum, Ryan Kwanten, Fred Latsko, Shelley Lazar, Sandra Lee, Jared Leto, Andra Liemandt, Eric and Janet McCormack, Joseph A. McMillan, Jr., Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne, Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer, Katy Perry, Tyler Perry, Steven Tyler, Sharon Stone and many more.

This year should be another charity success with stars ready to raise money for this worldwide cause.
